Sheffield based band The Crookes wanted to reproduce the frenetic energy of their live shows for the accompanying video to ‘Maybe in the Dark’, the second single from the album ‘Hold Fast.
The bands sophomore release was written during the winter months in the studio in Sheffield. Bringing a darker lyrical direction than their first album, and recorded with a visceral, almost live feel. The band were keen to capture this within the video and decided on recreating a live performance. The video was finished in black and white to complemented the album and single artwork.
Recreating a rawkus sweaty gig in front of a packed venue is hard to capture on a quiet weekday afternoon in an empty venue. However the band did a great job keeping their momentum over the course of a days filming.
The most intricate of FX were also employed, namely the band throwing bottles of water over themselves to recreate a sweat soaked brow.
The video was filmed at The Foundry at Sheffield University, the venue where the original band members first met and played some of their early performances.
